Naming Slugs in Production Assistant Template Creator
Posted by Theo Van laar on January 1, 2013 at 3:24 pmHi,
Happy New Year to all of you!
I’m creating a Template for Production Assistant 2 from an existing Vegas 12 Pro project. I have changed the events into slugs with the Template Creator. Now I would like to give all the slugs a unique name. However, if I give a name to one of the slugs, all the slugs get the same name.
When I close Vegas and open the template via production assistant, I see that no name has been assigned to the slugs.
Any advice on how to assign namesto the slugs?
Thanks!
Theo

It sounds like you may have all of the slugs selected. Make sure that you only select one slug when you give it a name so that the name is only assigned to that slug. I just tried this and it seems to be working fine.

Did you press the save icon (blue diskette) in the Media Slug Annotation area after you made the changes so that they get written to the slug? You should always save any changes before you move on to the next slug because the information is stored in the slug event itself.
I apologize, I thought we had training out there on this but I see that we never added a module on the Template Creator. We’ll have to fix that. In the mean time, feel free to ask any questions here.

January 1, 2013 at 3:51 pmHi John, thanks for your reply. Yes, I select only one slug each time. And yes, I did save using the save tab you were indicating. I saved many times, but it simply doesn’t work. Is this because I make the template from an existing project file?

Make sure that you have the latest Production Assistant 2.0.10. I started from an existing project and selected several events and pressed the Convert to Slug button. Then I selected each one individually and gave it a name and saved the name to the slug. Then I saved the whole template.

What exactly does that mean? You can start with an existing project, but you save the template using the save icon in the Template Creator. You don’t save your original project as a template in any way.

January 1, 2013 at 5:03 pmYes, this is exactly what I did: convert the events to slugs with the button you showed and save the template with the save button you mentioned. After that, I wanted to give the slugs a name. That part fails….
Maybe this explains what I’m doing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhwEMLBdndgI made a looping filmstrip in AE. In Vegas I imported the filmstrip and added the photographs. This Vegas project was nested into a second Vegas project where I composed the filmstrip in 3D together with some other stuff.
Then I made a template of the first Vegas file. Here I want to add names to the slugs. I will add this template to this posting, maybe that helps?

January 3, 2013 at 11:48 amI am still having the problem that I can not name the slugs in the template creator of production assistant 2. It does not work when I create a template from an existing project and not when I create a template from scratch.
I reinstalled production assistant already twice. I have version 2.0.10.28454 installed.
Can anybody confirm that it is possible to give names to slugs in the tempate creator? Or is this a known bug?
Thanks for your help!

I already confirmed that it works. I’ll try and make you a video tutorial so you can see how it works.

January 4, 2013 at 1:18 pmThe manual that accompanies Production assistant is also very clear. But still I didn’t manage to give a name to the slugs.
In one of my previous answers, i added a Vegas project file from my template. Can you see if I did something wrong in this template? Can you add names to the slugs in my template?Theo

January 6, 2013 at 12:20 amHi John,
I made a screencapture for you that shows how I made a simple template with 4 slugs. It shown how I add a description for the template and how I saved it. Then it shows how I give names to the slugs and save those names. Next, you can see how the names disappear and also are gone when I open the template in PA2.
The video is here:
https://youtu.be/i5onXxXFwCgI hope you can see where it is going wrong! Thanks a lot for looking into this problem.
