    Hello again,
I’m playing with bubbles in water (Alka-seltzer fizzing in a fish tank.) Is there a way to “slow down” the bubbles, to about 1/10th their normal upward speed, using Vegas?
    thank you
    John

Vegas will slow them down to 1/4 (25%). If you want to go slower, you can use a nested project or render it out and drop it in a new project and slow them down again. It probably won’t look very good slowing down that much because there just aren’t enough frames to make it look smooth (i.e., 1/10 @ 30fps requires 300 frames!).

What you really need to do is shoot the bubbles at 60fps or 120fps and then slow them down but you’ll need a camera capable of doing that. There are also plug-ins for Vegas Pro like Twixtor and Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) Optical Flow that can do a better job because they use motion estimation instead of just blending adjacent frames.

Thank you, John. Your points are very well – taken.
What is the control that will “slow down” the video in Vegas?
(I was also thinking of “lacing” the water with a bit of clear “Jello” and before it got too thick, put the Alka Seltzer tablets in it.)

Hold either down the Ctrl key while dragging the right edge of the event with the left mouse button, or open the event properties and change the Playback rate. Doing the former will obviously adjust the event length to compensate for the new motion while doing the later will not (you have to do that manually) which is why I prefer Ctrl+Drag.

    Youtube/research Twixtor.
Most people use the effect for a couple seconds, but its possible to use it to slow a clip for a long length.

Sorry for intruding, also since I’m away from my computer, when using the velocity envelope in pro 10, only slow down video or audio too?

Velocity envelopes are for video only. They do not affect the audio at all.
