Render Just the Center 640×360

Hey Everyone,

Is there a way to render just the middle of a video? I have a 640×480 video, but I want to render just the center area, so it’ll come out to 640×360. In other words, I want to crop the top and the bottom, but not the sides.

So far I’ve been rendering to a 640×360 file, then creating a 640×360 project and using Match Aspect in the crop box to get it to 640×360, then rendering it again. But it seems like I’d going through an extra rendering step that just shouldn’t be necessary.

So … Is there a way to do this? To render just the central area without having to go through an intermediary render?

Its easier to simply do the cropping on the timeline before you render.

But how? I can get it to cut out the top and bottom, but it automatically stretches the video to fit 640×480 again. Or it leaves a white space at the top or bottom.

I want to render a video file whose size is ACTUALLY 640×360. Can that be done in using crop?

In order to get what you want two things must be done.

1) The pan/crop size on all your events (hopefully this is not a highly split and edited video already) has to be 640×360.

2) When you get to the render dialog you must choose custom frame size in the frame size drop down and enter 640×360.

If you do #2 without doing #1 all the video information will be squished in to the new aspect ratio. If you do #1 without doing #2 it will look fine but you will not get what you want: a actual frame size of x360. It will be a 640×480 video with borders baked in.

- Set your project frame size to 640×360.
- Open Pan/Crop window, right click and select Match Output Aspect.
- Render with 640×360 template.
