this seems more of an IT question but if anyone has experienced the same let me know. we work off of a server and every so often the link to the files in after effect projects get broken and AE gives a missing file error. This generally happens in the middle of a ram preview or render. This only happens to files on server files on my local hd never have issues.

Not sure how much help this will be, but it seems it is a throughput issue with your server so your AE machine is momentarily losing connection with that server. Personally, I avoid at all cost working in AE with files that are anywhere except the local AE machine … or at least a directly connected RAID or other external drive. I know it can be done, but is generally much slower and introduces more IT issues/support. Hope this is some help.

If you’re talking about a normal office type network, it may just be that the throughput requirements (read/write speeds, consistency, etc.) for video and graphics work are much more demanding than most networked computer functions so multiple video/graphics computers need a shared storage solution designed specifically for video/graphics work … i.e., fibre channel or one of the other solutions that can handle networked video/graphics work, which a video engineer or video savvy IT technician can speak far more proficiently about than I.

FYI, COW member Bob Zelin is a guru in that area, but I don’t recall which forum he frequents most (AJA, Kona, Maxx Digital?).
