Just wanted to document what I found and see if we get a collection of useful notes.

    Media Manager:
I recently been using this more, especially after installing SQL Server Management Studio (free from Microsoft) to see the SQL tables the media manager uses. This helps my comfort level of putting my data into it even though Sony has not updated it for a few years. Other systems may use a proprietary format and your data is at the mercy of the product lifecycle.

    Project Media tab within SVP:
This was recently updated to include tag media for organization.
    Pros
Seems to work well and a little easier to navigate than Media Manager.

Reads tags from Media Manager, if you choose the option to save Media Manager tags to the media file and not just have them stored in the database (default).

Saves tags to files with the media filename plus an extension: .sfxt (XML format) for jpg and to .sfl (binary format) to mt2s files.
This means that once the media has been added to the project, it can display and sort by existing tags.

    Cons
When it writes the tags to *.sfl file, it always??? “corrupts” the file so that Media Manager crashes (hangs for hours if you let it) SVP 12 or SVP 11 while scanning for new files. If this happens to you, just delete the .sfl files from the folder having the problem. I will open a ticket to SCS now that I have reproduced this again.

Will only show media within the scope of a project. Probably not a good idea to make a project for your whole collection of media.

Thumbnail view does not scale like it does in the new Explorer tab.

    Explorer tab within SVP:
    Pros:
Supports CTRL-Scroll wheel scaling of thumbnails
Supports showing regions saved from the trimmer and adding just a region to the timeline.

    Cons:
    Does not show tags.
Does not show the wealth of information Media Manager would show.

I updated SVP12 to build 563 today, hoping there was a fix for the media tag corruption problem that you refer to and that I seem to be experiencing.

Unfortunately, the problem still seems to be there. My Project will hang upon Opening if there are more than 25 .sfl files in the clips folder.

I have the same issue when opening a Vegas project that has many tagged video files. I tried to eliminate some of the SFL files, the project opens eventually after 5-6 minutes but this is not a solution as I really need all those tags contained in the SFL files.
Maybe Sony will do something with future versions of SVP.
