    Hello gang,

I come to you in sort of an emergency. I recently shot a wedding in HD…the files are AVCHD. During the bridal pictures, I did some “sweeps” with my camera on a mono-pod of the girls all standing together. Looks great…especially in slow motion….except it is not looking great in my final product. The video is stuttering a bit and just does not look good.

I have done a lot of reading on here about this issue…tried the trick of copying one track and dropping it above, moving a half frame, and opacity at 50%…but still looks bad.

I then splurged and got Boris so I could use the Optical Flow. First thing, I do not seem to notice any change unless I render out the clip and watch it back on my PC. Second, there is so much noise and blurring, it looks worse than before. I am slowing everything down about 25%. I am now frantic as I need to deliver a final product soon. This is my first foray into slow motion like this.

I notice that some scenes look better in slow motion…the ones where I am not sweeping or panning. So I guess I created more of a problem by moving the camera then trying to put that in slow motion?

If there are any Boris Optical Flow experts here, I certainly welcome your input!!! Maybe I am doing something wrong with the settings.

I am using Sony Vegas 10
I borrowed a Panasonic HD camera…possibly the AG-HMC40/45? Looks similar. Video was shot 30fps.

I should point out that when I rendered that clip, the motion did look pretty smooth…it was just that the video now had a lot of noise and looked blurry all over the place.

More feedback..watching my camera pan/sweep with the bridal party at full speed, I still see a bit of stutter…so now I am thinking this is not due to the slow motion, but just me panning too quickly?

I could use some help here…

You cant slow that footage of yours down to 25% Troy,
You are going to get what you are having now, stuttering
and blurriness no matter what you use.
The only way you could have perfectly beautiful slow mo
at 25% is if you had initially shoot at 60 FPS (frames per second).
    Then you would be ok.
So, your best solution then would be to slow your footage
down to around 60%, if you go below that, it would gradually
    deteriorate.

P.S. If you wanted the best slow mo plugin, i would have
recommended Twixtor for Vegas instead of Boris Optical Flow,
    Twixtor is far superior.

I misspoke when I said I was slowing it down to 25%…I meant BY 25%…but it is still very jittery and looks horrible because of my fast pan/sweep.

Because I need to get this done, I went ahead and got Twixtor…WOW…what a difference! You are certainly right when saying it is a superior product. Night and day difference…I can finish my edit now with confidence…thank you!
