For some reason I can’t get the paste insert to work on the timeline. I need to insert a solid color in between two events on the same track but each time I try it inserts it to the track above.

When I go to the edit tab and try paste insert it is not even highlighted. I know this should be simple but for some reason I cannot figure this out.

Thanks for your help I am in a pinch time wise.

After you’ve picked the solid color you want from the “media generators” tab just drag it down between your two events on that same timeline. That should do it. No need to cut and paste anything.
Or if you’re using a solid color generated from Photoshop just drag that file onto the timeline.
That should do it unless I’m not understanding something.

    Hey Roger,

Sorry I was unclear. I just want to be able to paste insert into a timeline with any color, media event, etc.

For example: In the timeline, between two events, I want to insert a few seconds of black. I don’t want it to go on another track like b-roll, I want to insert into the timeline to actually add more time.

I saw the paste insert button under the edit tab, but when I try to use it, it is not highlighted and unavailable.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Jeff, I think you need to copy to clipboard an event on the timeline first, then paste or paste insert to anywhere on the timeline. I don’t think that copy/paste works for media unless you first place on the timeline.

[Jeffrey Keating] “For example: In the timeline, between two events, I want to insert a few seconds of black. I don’t want it to go on another track like b-roll, I want to insert into the timeline to actually add more time.”

    Try this:

    1. Turn ON Auto Ripple (Ctrl+L)
    2. Select the track you want to insert in and place the timeline cursor at the point where you want to insert
    3. Right-click an empty area of that track and select Insert Generated Media
    4. Add the Sony Solid Color that you’d like to insert (all of the events to the right of the cursor will ripple to the right and your colored media will be inserted)
    5. Turn OFF Auto Ripple (Ctrl+L) ( because things can get messy if you leave it on)

    That should do it.
