Can’t change audio settings
All of the videos my church produces is recorded with Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11’s included video capture program. It captures the audio with these settings:
Format : PCM
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 1 536 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Bit depth : 16 bitsWhen I put in movie studio to render to mp4, the program defaults to:
Audio format : AAC
Sample rate (Hz) : 44,100
Bit rate (bps) : 128,000
Audio coding mode : StereoWhat I would like to do is change these audio settings so the sound doesn’t take up so much space on the final rendered mp4. However, AAC is the only available format: ok, fine. But if I change any other setting (Hz or bps), the only thing movie studio 11 does is give me this error:
“An error occurred while creating the media file xxxxx.mp4.
An error occurred while opening a codec.”Any ideas or suggestions? This is a brand new Win 7 64bit install and the only video program on this computer. Also, haven’t put/installed any other codecs.

Im not familiar with the studio versions of Vegas, but im
thinking that maybe customization such as those are only

Then why would sony put so many different audio settings to choose from in the drop down lists of Hz and bps if they can’t be used? Why not just have the default settings with no other choices?

I have Movie Studio Platinum 10, and can change the MP4/AAC bitrate and sample rate as I wish without any error, for both the Sony AVC and the MainConcept AVC output formats. If you have only tried one of those, then try the other as well. I think they are a bbit different between Movie Studio 10 and 11 though.
I wonder if you have a problem with the codec installation or something. Occasionally folks have issues with other software (particularly codec packs) damaging or replacing the Vegas supplied codecs. Maybe there is a bug with this in version 11…
Incidentally, with a preset like Sony AVC Internet 360p, the ausio only accounts for about 6% of the output file (128kbps audio and 2Mbps video).
Steve, Movie Studio Platinum versions allow quite a bit of render format customisation, but the basic Studio version limits you to the presets I believe.

Thanks for the reply. I built this system specifically for video rendering. I did my research beforehand so the only video program I have installed is VMSHDP11. I also have not installed any other codecs or codec packs at all (also put this info in the original post). If this is a ver. 11 bug, then I guess I’m SOL since 12 is now out.
So next question: where does vegas install it’s codecs and/or is there a way to re-install them or verify they are where they are supposed to be?
Your preset suggestion, unfortunately, will not work for me. I am using around 500kbps and with the default audio settings getting about a 400MB file. However, I did try the MainConcept AVC and made my desired audio changes and it seems to render without problem (with the Sony AVC the error msg is instantaneous, the MC AVC render is currently running). I will see how the MC AVC render looks when it’s done. Otherwise, if I could change the audio settings in the Sony AVC, I think I could get an even smaller file, which I so desperately desire.
So, any other suggestions with how to correct this codec error would be greatly appreciated (other than trying to completely redo the pc).

One other thing to try on the Sony AVC render is disable GPU rendering. It might only apply to the video encoding, but it’s worth a shot. Go to the custom settings dialog for Sony AVC and enable the “Encode on CPU even if GPU is available” checkbox on the video tab before rendering.
