Movie Studio 12.0 Freezes While Rendering
Posted by Sam Moledo on September 5, 2012 at 2:35 amHey, everybody! I have the newest Vegas Movie Studio, Movie Studio Platinum 12.0, and I’m having a major problem. Every time I try to render my project, it renders up to a certain point and then just freezes. I don’t know what to do.
My computer runs Windows 7 64-bit, has an i7-2600 3.4 GHz processor, and has 8 GB of RAM (I’ll say any other specifications as needed). Thank you in advance!

September 5, 2012 at 9:28 amMake a note on which part of the video it freezes during render,
and make some adjustment there like use a different peace of
footage or remove the video effect thats at that spot etc.Steve Rhoden

September 5, 2012 at 11:37 amThanks Steve, but that’s just it: the exact spot of the crash keeps changing, so I can’t tell what spot may causing the freeze. It’s frozen from 46% to around 51%, which are two very different parts. The half of the video that doesn’t get rendered has quite a few special effects, but that’s never been a problem for me before (cutting them out isn’t an option, as they’re vital to the final product). I’ve tried rendering the second half by itself and tried different video outputs, but none of that has worked.

September 5, 2012 at 2:01 pmSam,
Try copying each track to a new project. Highlight everything on the track and copy it. Switch to a new project, with the properties and tracks all set up, and paste that part into it. Repeat this for all the tracks making sure you have accounted for any open space at the beginning of the track. Save this under a new name and folder, with the save media checkbox checked. If the save fails you will find your problem file, if there is one. If it all saves fine, try rendering the new project.
It might be a longshot, but this is the best chance of rescuing your work.

September 6, 2012 at 10:36 pmMy Adobe After Effects also crashes for me when rendering when ever I reach a certain point. I did some trial and error and found out that that point is 700 frames when I have Kaspersky running, 4 YouTube videos tabs, 4 Facebook tabs, 4 WinRar archives running, WinAmp running, Windows Media Player running playing a song, and 40 Windows Explorer tabs open.
I found out that that point is 1400 frames when I close my internet browser.
I found out that that point is 1700 frames when I also close everything else in the above list.
I found out that that point is 800 frames when I close everything in the above list and my computer and my external HDD start to over heat and I solved that problem to get back up to 1700 frames by putting ice packs underneath my laptop and by putting an ice pack underneath my external HDD.
I have 3GB RAM and Adobe After Effects is installed on a 320 GB external HDD with 7200 RPM with 160 GB free space on the HDD, so that means that the 1700 frame limit for me is a RAM limit problem that would be solved by more RAM.
I have had no problems rendering in Vegas Pro 10 with 3 GB RAM, 7200 RPM external HDD, and 160 GB free space on external HDD, except I had problems with pixelated look at time one minute to time two minute in a 4 minute long video which I’m not sure what caused that it might be a lot of detailed motion in background for that minute bc if it was a RAM issue EVERYTHING would be pixelated after the first issue like in Adobe After Effects.
In Sony Vegas Pro I had problems with rendering to mp4 of no audio in movie when finished rendering and that I resolved by downloading and installing “Tippard Total Media Converter” which has all of the Apple QuickTime Pro 10 codecs bundeled in for free.
Your Sony Vegas Pro Movie Studio 12.0 freezing while rendering could thus from my experience be any one of these causes:
(1) You don’t have enough RAM installed.
(2) Your computer has a virus. Install AV protection and don’t double click on every thing you see.
(3) You have too many programs running at the same time as Vegas Pro. Close them.
(4) You have too many programs running on the side bar at the same time as Vegas Pro like Windows Media Player and WinAmp. Close them.
(5) You have your anti virus protection program running stealing valuable RAM so shut it off.
(6) Your HDD is only 4500 RPM and not 7500 RPM.
(7) You didn’t install Vegas Pro to an external HDD. Buy an external HDD and do that.
(8) Your cheap laptop has cooling fans on the bottom instead of on the sides. Buy a cooling fan.
(9) Your cheap external HDD has cooling fan on the bottom instead of on the sides. Buy a cooling fan.
(10) Your cheap laptop has cooling fans on sides but still has severe overheating problems. Your BIOS is corrupted likely by a virus. Download a new BIOS for your laptop and install it then reboot your computer then install AV protection and don’t click on every thing you see.
(11) Your computer still has a virus after installing AV protection and not double clicking on everything. Still useing IE? IE is extremely vulnervable to viruses. Download and install the free Google Chrome browser and download and install the free Adblock for Google Chrome.
(12) Your computer and external HDD still overheating? Put them on top of ice packs. I’m serious. It worked for me.
(13) Nothing above work? Did you download your Vegas Pro Movie Studio 12.0 from a torrent? Torrents often contain faulty crack patches that install viruses on your computer and crash the program. Use a safe torrent crack patch. Even safer than torrent crack patches are keygens. Keygens are very safe bc it does not need to modify your program usually it just generates a serial and an activation code and a machine ID. -

September 21, 2012 at 1:19 pmHey, I’ve been looking all over the net for a RECENT thread to this problem. They go back for years and I can’t find a clear answer anywhere as to why it happens.
I think I MIGHT have an idea though. I’m running CPUID to monitor temperature levels. Everything seems normal EXCEPT for the CPUTIN temperature. At the moment during a render (On that has failed at 15% 62% 98% 75% and succeeded at 100%) it’s average is 38, minimum is 22 but it’s spiked as high as 87 at it’s maximum. There is a picture of this data here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/27170354@N07/8009010300/
I’ve heard this might be a glitch in my BIOS in some of my previous searching and that no fix exists. If you guys have any information or thoughts on this please let me know.
And in case it helps here is my system information.

September 25, 2012 at 4:32 amI’m having some luck now. I’ve disabled GPU processing from the render options. I seem to recall having tried this before and still gotten crashes. I am also disabling re sampling on my individual video clips in the project this time as well. So far no crashes, will keep you updated.

there’s no such thing as Sony Vegas Pro Movie Studio 12 as far as I know. There’s Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 though.
Your points 1 to 12 seem like worthwhile advice. I would change 13) though like this: Buy a legit download or copy.
