Vegas 11 Pro & DVDA Pro overkill for my use?
Hi all,
I recently built a new computer to assist in converting GoPro HD video to DVD’s & BD’s in addition to daily home use. It happens to be a i7-3770K, 16GB RAM, Win7 x64, 240GB SSD for the OS & applications, and a 4x1TB RAID 10 for video storage. I assembled the rig and I got the OS installed just last Thursday.
I’m currently undecided on a video card; I’ve heard that there are separate compute vs gaming cards. I had planned on buying an overclocked EVGA 670 for use with Vegas. But if decide not to go with Vegas then I don’t know if any other products will take advantage of the GPU for rendering? Highly unlikely I’ll be doing much gaming on this system, but I don’t like to limit my options either.
I downloaded Vegas 11 Pro & DVD Architect Pro trials to get an idea whether they are the best tools to write the highest quality media. Without using the manual, I can get around pretty well in DVDA, but I haven’t spent much time in Vegas because it seems more complex than what I need. But I’ve also read that to get the best quality, I need to render video separately in Vegas and just the separate A/V streams into DVDA.
Sony’s peer forum gives me concerns from other owners that Vegas 11 is quite buggy and it doesn’t seem as if Sony is doing much to correct the issues. The Sony AVC template seems to have the best quality but it is not listed on my clean install but I don’t know if the trial is truly fully functional the first 30 days? I’ve found others who have had this issue but I haven’t found many tips other than insuring you don’t have any third-party codecs installed…. which I don’t unless they were included with Microsoft products.
I don’t mind spending a couple hundred dollars on the software, but it needs to be reliable and offer a nice set of features which includes what I think Vegas 11 & DVDA5 offers… stripped of the things a home user is unlikely ever to need. I want to be able to burn BD & DVD at the highest possible quality, have nice editing features like menus, backgrounds, animations, etc. Don’t care about 3D.
So what’s your opinion of VV11, DVDA Pro? Is it more reasonable to use the Studio versions of these products, or does the support and quality control issues exist in those products also? If not Sony, which product(s) would you recommend?
Thanks for your time,
Jim
