How to apply an effect in the only one segment of a footage ?
Posted by Saurabh Nande on August 27, 2012 at 1:01 pmHello everyone,
I am new to this forum and also new to use sony vegas.
I was trying to reduce noise or apply some other effect only the last part/frame of my video, searched different youtube tuts also but could not find one related to my problem.
can anyone please tell me how to do that. Better if one can provide me some video tut links where i can see how it is performed. I use Sony vegas pro 11.
Thanking you in advance.John Rofrano replied 13 years, 11 months ago 3 Members · 7 Replies -

You can apply FX to Media, Tracks, and Events. Your only options are to:
(1) Split the section of your video so that it creates a new event and place the FX to the events.
(2) Move the events to a different track and apply the FX to the new track.

August 27, 2012 at 6:53 pmI did that but seems it is not working or probably i am doing something wrong. What i did-
I splited the segment(by pressing “S”)and then used effect (neat video) on that segment. Then joined the segments and after selecting whole footage i created new group by right click (and selecting “create new group). Finally rendered the whole footage.
neat video seems effective when i watch clip withing the vegas but noise remains as it is in the rendered new clip..
please correct me if i am wrong somewhere.. -

August 28, 2012 at 1:13 amIt doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong and if it looks the way you want in the Vegas preview but not in the render it is more than likely a bug rather than anything you did wrong. What I would do is isolate the event you want to use Neat Video on and render that out separate. Then use the cleaned video in your project by adding it back to the event as a take. Then render the whole thing.

August 29, 2012 at 1:33 pmIs Neat Video more straight forward to use than the Boris plug-in?
Also is this something that can be used for old VHS videos?
Thanks John.Roger Bansemer

Neat Video works on a different principal and so it a bit more complex. You have to give it a sample of the noise and sometimes it’s tricky selecting the right sample. Then it uses that sample as a pattern to remove the noise. Boris Noise Reduction is more automated. Kind of set it and forget it using the presets as a starting point and tweaking from there.
Here is my tutorial on Boris Noise Reduction for Boris TV:
