How is this done?
If you look at a clip from a documentary on the Smithsonian Channel about the Mary Celeste here:

Starting at about 0:23, how would you get a shot like that? It’s obviously taken of a painting. Would you simply take a still photo of it and then open it in the timeline and use Pan/Crop to create the movement? Or would you pan while taking a video shot of the painting?

You can do both, but pan while taking a video shot of the painting
would give a better result…..Or if using a still, it has to be

You can do the same thing with Pan/Crop and a high resolution image. Use Smooth keyframes so that the start and end are not abrupt but are smoother like a real camera pan would be.

Indeed, as John mentioned, always adjust the keyframes
