    Hello,

I am working on a project for a client who has requested an “astral light plane” similar to the one in 2001:A Space Odyssey. Here’s a sample photo of what we are trying to achieve –

    Photobucket

Basically the light is sweeping up towards the camera in a constant chaotic motion. I’ve been trying to come up with a way to start this project…any ideas? Particular? 3d Stroke?

I would use Particular /3d stroke and then use glows /rays Shine to ad to the zooming effect.

Thanks for your quick response!! I love creative cow.

Shine is from Trapcode also right? So I would use shine to produce the “plane of light” than particular/3d stroke to create the sweeping lines of light…right?

I would draw some geometry in Illustrator then cut and paste them onto a solid in AE. Apply 3d stroke and replicate them and zoom them etc. Trapcode shine will add an glowing edge ray effect.

There is a tutorial either on here or on videocopilot that shows you how to create a tunnel – you might want to use that to create the 2001 tube or just reflect a moving plane.

here’s a link to a thread regarding creating the slit screen effect in ae… filip gives a recipe for creating it in ae and includes a link the image used in the original 2001 effect:
