  Importing MP4 into Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10

  Hi all,
  I’m trying to import footage (.MP4 format) that was shot on a Sony EX1 camera into Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10. Unfortunately Vegas won’t allow me to import it and an error message comes up saying; “Warning: An error occurred while loading the project file. The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format.”

  After googling the problem, I discovered that Vegas has difficulties importing some MP4 files. The format of the MP4 file is MPEG-4 (according to MediaInfo).

  What is the best way to tackling this problem? Are there any free video converters out there that can convert this for me without any great loss of quality and what would be the best format to convert it to for Vegas MS 10?

  Make sure you have a recent version of QuickTime installed.
  If you do, try to get the source folder from the camera’s owner.
  Once you have that, install version 2.6 (it’s free) of XDCAM ClipBrowser and use it to extract the source video and transcode it to MXF which is a format Vegas loves.
