Editing multiple key frames at once
I’ve got handheld video from my daughter’s wedding that I’m trying to salvage using Vegas Home Studio 11. We had some last minute complications and I ended up grabbing two relatives and asking them to tape what they could. If it wasn’t a wedding it would be pretty comical. One kept turning the camera sideways and zooming into the digital zoom range (why do cameras even have that?) and the other got the On/Off of the record function reversed and half of his video is of the floor. I managed to cobble together clips to get the key highlights of the ceremony but it looks like it was shot during an earthquake. I tried the stabilizing feature but some it crops way too much and cuts off heads half the time so I’ve taken the insane step of manually cropping and panning to stabilize it as well as I can. I started by setting key frames at points where it changes direction and lining those frames up. Then I went through and set intermediate key frames to smooth things out. I’ve probably got key frames set on half the frames! It’s only 8 min of video and I’ve got AT LEAST 50 hours into it.
The problem is that if I realize I need to crop something more later on, I have all those key frames set and have to edit all of them individually. I tried highlighting several key frames and changing the settings for all at once but it didn’t work. Is there any way to do that?
Also, it looks like splitting an event keeps the associated adjustments in the right place but if I add a crossfade or otherwise extend the clip, I *think* it messes up the adjustments I made. Is that right? If so, is there a way to lock them to the frames? I read something about selecting all the key frames and moving them together and the would effect the same percentage of the event but I didn’t understand that.
Even though the quality is marginal, the video did capture some special moments during the ceremony so I’d appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer to help me make the best of what we have.
