How to redirect pathways for file on a project
I had a project I created on an external hard drive that I normally use as a backup while my main one was out. My primarily external HD is back in use, so I copied everything over to it to continue work on the project. Of course, Vegas is looking up the backup HD for all the project files. I know I can force Vegas to look up the newly placed files on the current HD by turning off the backup one and opening the project, which will make Vegas search for them, but is there a way of redirecting Vegas to the project files on my main HD just by using tools in Vegas?

No, but you can make Windows think any drive is whatever drive letter you specify.
Here’s a batch file that I wrote that makes your external drive look like drive B to Windows.
Just put the batch file on the external drive, run it once and the external drive is drive B no matter what Windows mounted it as. You can edit the batch file to make your external drive any drive letter you want. Just don’t make it drive C or Windows will stop working.

Umm.. when Vegas says it cant find a file, aren’t you given the option of telling it where it is, and then that any other “lost” file is at that location too?
I’m not at my work computer so can’t verify that atm.Windows 7 Pro64, 16GB RAM, SSD boot drive, GTX 570 Graphics, Vegas Pro 11 and VP10 just in case

Thanks, guys. I tried running the project with my backup hard drive off, and Vegas then changed the pathway of all my project files to the hard drive I wanted without me really doing anything.

@Phil, yes, it works that way. I actually depend on that facility. When I start a project, I use my internal drive (a folder on my desktop normally) which keeps things moving swiftly. After getting things set up and ready to rock, I close everything, reboot, then move the folder to an external drive. Then work from there.
I don’t trust Microsoft machines enough to store client projects on it’s hard drive.
BTW, Angelo, when you start a thread, phrase your subject as a question, then during a search, it doesn’t look like a solution rather than a question. Many times I have searched for an answer on a forum and thought I had found a solution, when in fact, it was not a solution, just a poorly worded inquiry.
