  combine tracks for transition?

  Good day Cowsters,

  I have events in several tracks layered as composite. I want to collectively use this “set” and use a transition (ie. wipe) to another event.

  Can this be done without having to create a nested project?

  Only with ‘render to new track’ which is quite like a nested project.

  Thanks Jeff,

  I guess I’ll stick to the nested approach. I think it may be a cleaner approach.

  I had completely forgot the “render to new track” function. Thanks for brining it up. not sure when I ‘ll use it but good to have in my toolkit.

  No. But you can try the following: Take a snapshot of your “set” and use it for a transition 🙂

  However, there is motion in the set so I can’t use it in this case.

  I would set a region for the transition, select it, and render to new track (selection only). This speeds up your final render because nesting seems to take so much more time.

  If you have multiple tracks, maybe something like:

  Track C:__ Parent
  Track D:____ Child
  Track E:____ Child

  Perhaps something like this:

  Track A:__ your “next” event
  Track B:__ Parent (Sony Solid Color, White), Multiply (Mask)
  Track C:____ Parent
  Track D:______ Child
  Track E:______ Child

  The Sony Solid White should be the exact length of C, D, E (whichever is longest). Make sure the compositing mode is Multiply(Mask).

  The events in Track A and B overlap, where the Transition will be applied.

  Add a fade out to the event in track B.
  Add a fade in to the event in track A.
  These two fades should be the same length.

  Apply the same Transition to the fades in the events in tracks A and B.
