  • Vegas Pro 11 – audio level varies on renders – random dips in volume

With Vegas Pro 11 we’ve encountered a problem with audio. Often, when we render an mpeg or wmv, or print to tape, the audio level will dip for a second or two then return to normal. It plays back fine from the timeline – no errors, no dips – just solid audio.

The problem does not always occur at the same place. We even noticed some scratchy audio on renders to mpeg2 and wmv. Re-rendering several times will usually yield a good file, but it may take 5 or more until we get a good one.

On large projects, 30 minutes or more, this is a real problem. It was posted to Sony on April 5th, but no reply yet.

We are using ver 11, build 595, and, yes there is a more recent build not yet installed – but no hint in the known issues that might solve this problem. Our system is an intel i960 w/24 gb ram.

    Thanks for any help.

Are there any AGC functions active on any of the templates?

On what device? Your PC? Your iPod? Your $10000 Home Theater?

    Thanks for the reply.

The dips/drops in vol occur in the rendered files (mpeg2, wmv) and when we print-to-tape to dvcpro50 (this is the format still required by our state PBPS network, so that’s how we have to deliver). The odd thing is that all audio is fine when played back from the timeline. The dips seem to be random and short, usually 1 to 3 sec.

We started with Sony on this issue on April 5th – no luck, so far – we’re still trying with them.

Our current installed version is 11 build 595. The support site does not show this as a known issue/problem and is not mentioned for the yet to be installed build 683. Any ideas?

No – we thought of that and checked – clean audio tracks.

Does the track order make a difference? We have not had the problem in the past – before April (that’s when we started asking Sony support – no luck with them).

We are wide open to suggestions.
