  Need to prepare Vegas project for DVD. Files are either too large or colors become too saturated/dark.

  I’ve made a video in Vegas and need to have it put on a DVD by tonight(Needs to be ready for tomorrow).

  I’ve searched through tutorials and read up a bit on Vegas/Architect, but I run into a couple problems.

  1) If I render as “DVD Architect NTSC Widscreen video stream”, the resulting MPEG-2 is of noticeably lower quality. Specifically, the colors are darker/more saturated looking.
  2) Rendering as an AVI (HD 720) makes it look perfect, but the file is way too large (Half way though I ran out of disk space and the file was 40+ Gigs)

  I appreciate any fast responses since I’m on a deadline.
  It is a video slideshow.

  Render it using a custom MPEG-2 setting of 8,000,000 CBR (Constant Bit Rate).
  You can’t get any better than that.

  Well I got it to work now. Did the entire DVD menus and everything.

  When I burn it to a disk and play back on the TV, the colors look darker/saturated like I mentioned previously. The video looks fine on my computer (original video file and even in preview for DVD Architect).

  Any idea why the colors would darken/saturate only after burning to the disk?

  Update. Trying to basically start over with the rendering process. If I change the settings to CBR 8,000,000 like you mentioned, I noticed that it creates a black flickering on one of the scenes. Re-rendered multiple times and it only affects the videos I use 8,000,000 CBR on.

  My project properties were set to “HD 1080-60i (1920×1080, 29.970 fps)”

  Is that pretty much pointless if I’m just going to be putting it on a regular DVD anyways? Would that have anything to do with the color issues I’m having?

  Is your TV properly set up? A lot of places I go into are definitely not.

  Can you post a screenshot?
  I shoot a lot of theatre with lighting that’s often all over the place) and haven’t experienced any flickering.

  Unless both your computer monitor and your TV are color calibrated by a hardware device, you cannot expect the colors or luminance being displayed to be either accurate or consistent. You also cannot expect a future display device (like the one you plan to use tomorrow) to show the same colors or luminance unless it is also properly calibrated. None of this has anything to do with what Vegas may, or may not, be doing. Even your source video may not be accurately adjusted to display the true colors and luminance. This is a tough problem especially if the proper equipment is lacking.
