2D shadow (no white?)
Posted by Kelly Griffin on April 21, 2012 at 4:37 pmI want to use 2D shadow in track motion to put kind of a soft white highlight behind some logos and text. It’ll let me do any color of the rainbow except white, whether alpha’s full on or full off.
Is white a mystery color or something?

It must be because I can’t do it either 🙁
Try 2D Glow instead as that one allows you to set it to white. -

April 21, 2012 at 6:53 pmActually it’s because it is emulating a “real” shadow and there is no such thing as a white shadow. If you place an orange color gradient generated media under your track and set the shadow to green, you’ll notice the green interacting with the orange gradient so that the green is more intense over the lighter parts than the darker parts. Likewise if you mute all of the tracks below this track the shadow will disappear completely becase there is nothing to cast the shadow on to.
You are expecting it to behave like an offset border but it’s not a border; it’s a shadow effect so it needs something to cast on to and it interacts with the background that it’s casting the shadow on to. Adding white to the background just yields the background making the white shadow seem invisible.
If you want a drop border, use a piece of solid white generated media and offset it behind it.

Anyway, thanks (and it seems I can always count on a weekend response from Mike!).
