March 16, 2012 at 12:49 pmThe lack of HD standards is truly hurting the industry and no one seems to care. We editors spend more time debugging problems with delivering HD than actually being creative. It is very sad and one of the reason’s I’m still working with HDV (because it’s “somewhat” standard ).
The TV industry is living in the dark ages. The fact that they can’t seem to provide intelligent boxes that can sense SD vs HD and “do the right thing” is mind boggling. This is not a difficult problem to solve but no one wants to address it. Why my HD cable box continues to show me SD content when the same content is available in HD is a mystery to me. I shouldn’t have to be aware of it and choose it… it should just “do the right thing” and show me the best it has to offer. Maybe the new HDTV Apple is working on will change all this. 😉
