I have a long interview which was shot in a number of segments so each segment shows up as a separate event. They all need color correction so do I have to do each event separately or is there a way to it one time and have it apply to all segments? The camera never moved during the shooting, so all segments look exactly alike.

Yes, many ways. Easiest is to make the CC on the track the video is on. Another way is to right click the media and do it as a Media FX. You can put a filter on the Video Output FX, the setting on the preview window. Yet another way is to make the change to one event (clip) and copy/paste to all the others after selecting all the others.

I’m gonna really seem dumb now, but could you walk me through each step of the 3 solutions you offered? I’m not sure how to do them. I am just learning this program.

Listen Randy, the easiest way to achieve this is to
simply drag your color correcting filter to the Preview
    Window
and make your adjustments…Doing this applies your
color correction on all your Videos in the project one time.

Colour correct 1 event the way you want it. Right mouse click that event and select Copy. Ctri-click or shift-click the remaining events you want to apply the correction to, and then right mouse click and select Paste Event Attributes. Viola!

Shift-clicking allows you to select a sequence of events or tracks in order, whilst ctrl-clicking allows you to choose them out of order or at random.

The problem I just noticed is that if I do it in the Preview window under Video Output FX is that it does the correction to ALL the layers. The video looks fine now, but all the photos and graphs also now have the attributes of the video and I didn’t want that. I’ll undo and try this one.

That’s why it’s best to follow Jim’s suggestion of applying the CC on the track the video is on.
Any other material that shouldn’t be affected by this can be moved to it’s own track(s).

I gave you that recommendation because you mentioned earlier
in your post you wanted it on everything…. You didnt mention
    graphs and such.
Then as the other recommendation suggests, you instead add
    your filter at track level.

I think he meant the interview was the same – not all the shots in the show.

When you use any effect in Vegas you’ll notice some pre-sets and a little disc icon – you can save any pre-set for any effect and even save a chain of effects – say Levels, Color Corrector and Brightness/Contrast as a pre-set.

If you’re using the Color Corrector for instance on your interview and like the result, you can then name it anything you like say “Interview 1” and save that as a pre-set. Then you can just drag that pre-set to each interview clip in the show.

I suggested applying the FX at event level probably because it suits my multicam workflow using Vasst’s Ultimate S Pro. I can individually tweak each event if necessary. In weddings where the white balance can change rapidly as my operators are moving around looking for the best shot, splitting and correcting events is necessary at times. Of course, if I have to make a global change, not having the FX at track level does mean a visit to each event.
