As far as I’m aware, it’s stand alone. I save my titles as AVI, then add the file to my project media bin.

Definitely a stand alone program but very powerful for more than just slick 3D titles. Projects can easily be rendered to AVI with Alpha channel so you just drop them in Vegas time line and turn on the alpha channel (pre-multiplied dirty) under the AVI’s properties menu.
You can do some neat 3D animations and import 3D models from other sources as well. Here’s one example:

Bluff looks like a great compositor. i think that link is broken James?

I wouldn’t call it a compositor, that’s probably its weakest attribute. Particle generator is not bad, 3D titler is excellent, 3D composition yes, but it falls short when you start adding video and audio elements which you can do, just not with much control over how the file plays. That said the sample video contains elements added in vegas (smoke, fire, audio. The ground, sky, lightning bolts, text, power plant model, light and movement were all done in bluff.

how do i replace a graphic in a show btw?

There is a gallery at https://www.outerspace-software.com/gallery/index.php with examples of user shows where you can also ask questions. The developer is very active and will often answer most questions within a day or even create special effects or show examples for users.
To replace a graphic in a show you select that layer and hit F9 to change it’s properties.
