PAL Settings
Posted by Linda O’connell on January 7, 2012 at 4:39 pmI need to make a DVD 4:3 aspect ratio, 2 hours long into PAL. I have never done this before. Can someone tell me the settings I should be using to render? Also do I still just pick AC3 for the audio? And lastly do I have to do anything different in DVD architect?
Sorry for so many questions!

Use the DVD Architect PAL video stream template and customize it as follows.
” Also do I still just pick AC3 for the audio?”
Yes. The default is fine.
“And lastly do I have to do anything different in DVD architect?”
Nope. Render both video and audio using the same name, render to the same folder and when you load the video stream into DVDA, the audio will automatically follow.

January 9, 2012 at 11:37 pmThanks for the info..I will just post this because I struggled a bit with this, in case someone else has the same issue.
I should have known this but didn’t even think about it:
Both the properties in DVD Arch and in Vegas need to be set at PAL settings. I didn’t even think about that! -

April 15, 2012 at 2:40 pmHi Mike,
So to do a finished pal dvd to play in London, Do i have to set my properties in vegas to pal and then i drop my ntsc footage in to edit, then when done, do the steps you said above to render for DVDA? -

April 15, 2012 at 4:28 pmBernie, it’s been a long time since I did this but as I recall, those were the steps I used to make a PAL DVD.
My project was originally done in NTSC so all I did was change the project properties to PAL and render accordingly.
Be advised that this will take a lot longer than an NTSC render as you’re converting from 720×480 at 29.97 fps to 720×576 at 25 fps.
The bitrate settings will depend on the length of the program.
Remember to do as Linda mentioned and set the properties in DVDA to PAL.
Something else to keep in mind is that, unlike North America, most European DVD players as well as TV sets can handle an NTSC signal.
They convert on the fly so you’d be safe sending an NTSC DVD. -
