Keeping all audio the same db on Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11
Hi,
I am working on some wildlife videos with various recorded WAV voice audio clips on one track. I have noticed that some of the clips sound a bit louder than others or others a bit softer and for voice recordings, you’d want all the audio for the voice recordings to be the same volume level but I am unsure how to get all the different clips to the exact same volume level so there isn’t any volume issues. Can anyone help?

I’m assuming movie studio has these features since I use Pro, but for each project I usually go to the Track FX for the audio track, go to Track Compressor, bring Threshold down to around -25db, and Amount (x:1) all the way up. This brings up the lowest parts of the audio while bringing up the loudest parts while still keeping them from clipping.
I just started using the Wave Hammer Sound plugin at the track level to level out audio, and try that and see what level you have to set it at. From the experience I had with it on a previous project, it basically will set an overall level for the project to stay roughly within.

Use Levelator from Gigabox Media. It’s free and it’s purpose is to equalize voice levels for podcasts, but it works with just about any audio source – as long as it starts with a WAV file.

Hi Stephen,
That is great, the Levelator worked. All I had to do was turn down the volume by 2db on the track in Sony Vegas after using the converted WAV files. Will be using it in future.
