  • Sony Vegas pro 11 ERROR that doesn’t happen in Sony Vegas pro 10 – I can’t seem to fix it

I found an error with the “border FX” feature on Sony Vegas pro 11. It used to be that in Sony Vegas 10 and 9 if I used the “pan/crop” on a video to make it smaller and had the “border FX” on, the borders would follow the edges of the video, they wont do that anymore unless you flip the video horizontally.

Here are 2 screenshots of the same project opened with Sony Vegas pro 10 and Sony Vegas pro 11 without any modifications.

    PLEASE HELP!
If anyone can confirm this error so I know that it’s not just me.
Unfortunately even though I really like the new Sony Vegas I had to install Vegas 10 again because that’s the only way I can do my videos now

I did not notice the problem, but I only had a single track of video. In one of the Sony tutorials they explained that in SVP 11 Pan/Crop is now shown in the FX chain. It is possible that the Pan/Crop is being performed in a different sequence between SVP 10 and SVP 11. In your screenshot in SVP 11 you can see that the Pan/Crop FX appears first at the top of the FX dialog from left to right (occurs before the Border FX). You can change the order of the FX to see if that helps or makes things worse. I’m not sure that would explain when you flip the video horizontally and then the borders have the effect you wanted.

I tried adding a border to a child video track that had motion from the parent. I then cropped the child video and the border worked as expected. I would be willing to load up a test project you created just to help you verify if it happens on my system.

I know what you’re talking about, I tried changing the order of the FX but so border is first and pan/crop is after, but it doesn’t help. I don’t know why it only works when it’s flipped. Here is another Screenshot of a duplicate track and only the flipped one works the way I want.

Okay, here is a project file I just made. It has 2 pitures with borders, I duplicated the tracks, and then I changed some negative axis to positive (track motion) and flipped horizontally the one on the right

    Here is the file:

It should look like this (unless Im the only one with the problem):

I was looking in Preferences for something that would be different than in the veg file. I noticed from a previous test, that I had GPU acceleration of Video Processing turned off. When I set it to the NVidia GTX570, I then get the results you show.

At least we know it is not just your system.

You are Right!! This sucks though because now it’s going to take a long time to render. I wonder how it will look if I render with the GPU acceleration ON. Anyways thank you SO MUCH for your help.

Should I work on SVP11 (GPU acceleration off) or SVP10?

    Thanks again.

As far as I can tell the Preference option is for Video Processing for the preview. If I turn that off, I can render with the GPU which is buried under the Customize Template screen as encode mode.

If I set to automatic it took 3s to render. If I set it to CPU only it took 6s to render. I tried both combinations a couple times and the results were consistent. So even through the Video Processing preference is off, you can still get the speed up on the renders.

I tried turning on the Video Processing preference where it showed the border messed up again and tried rendering. The result matched the preview…messed up border. I think we both have enough information to give Sony reproduce the problem. Just for make certain, I reproduced it with my own videos too.

    Thanks Mark.

I can’t believe Sony would mess up like this. Anyways thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

I went ahead and opened an incident, #111216-000040, and referred to this thread for details.
