DVD Architect imports only mpeg2, ignores ac3 file while authoring
hi, this is my first post, so forgive me if i am posting in the wrong place or if i don’t furnish the needed info. i’m using sony vegas movie studio hd 11. my version of dvd architect is 5.0. i have followed quite a few threads on creative cow, so first i got my film clip to the finished state on the timeline. i have 1 video track and 1 audio track. i “rendered as” the video track to mpeg2 with dvd ntsc streaming. i rendered the audio track as stero ac3. both renderings have the same name. the renderings are visible in the folder by their names and extensions. when i launch dvd architect, i choose “make a single film,” and choose to use both video and audio files. however, when i continue, dvd architect only sees the mpeg-2 file and gives me no chance to use the ac3 file. it’s as if the program doesn’t even know it exists, yet the ac3 file is in the folder, even with a treble clef logo.
i chose to make a separate video and audio rendering based on reading multiple threads. it’s been difficult to get them back together! the only issue i can think of that might be a factor is my audio timeline. the audio does not start at the beginning of the video timeline since there is no sound for the title. the audio timeline starts as the video fades to full.i chose “no menu” for the dvd burn. i have not burned the files since there is no audio track visible in the dvd architect timeline.

I’m not sure if DVD Architect Studio supports importing AC3 files. Render your audio as a WAV file and see if that fixes the problem.

hi john, thanks so much for the fast response. my program is dvd architect studio 5.0. i went to their website & copied the supported formats:
Image: .bmp, .gif, .jpeg .jpg, .png, .psd, .tif, .tiff, .targa, .tga
Video: .avi, .mov, .mp4, .mpeg, .mpg, .qt, .wmv
Audio: .aa3, .ac3, .aif, .ogg, .oma, .sfa, .vox, .w64, .wma
i will try your suggestion to see if that helps. the rendering only takes a minute or two for the audio.

hi john, i rendered the audio using wav as you suggested. dvd architect pulled the audio file into the timeline correctly~! thanks so much. i guess the “supported formats” include ac3 for authoring the dvd’s, but not for importing that type file to do the authoring? anyway it worked. it’s sort of funny because i specifically rendered the file as ac3 so it would be in the correct format.

I’m glad that worked for you. There was a time when DVD Architect Studio did not support AC3 at all. I guess they added the ability to render but still not import. Seems strange but as long as you have a workflow that works for you, that’s what’s important.

the latest: i updated dvd architect to 5.0 build 156 ( i had found ver 5.2 would use ac3 files). well, it turns out the 156 build WILL read ac3 files. so, i rendered in mpeg-2 ntsc dvda & ac3 stereo, then opened dvd architect ( i seem to have better luck opening up dvda separately from sony vegas). i then had dvda “prepare” the 2 files for burning. well, it only took 25 seconds~!!!…even burning the dvd was super fast. the clip is about 8 minutes long. i was thrilled to verify the dvd on playback, so i feel i have made significant progress. my next challenge is for some reason the left arms of anyone in the center position of the frame look slightly purple. their right arms look fine. the light source is more from the right side, so it may be a shadow issue on the arms. i tried the color balance fx, but there was no change or improvement. but that belongs in a different thread.

i had exactly her problem…Architect studio 4 was giving Render Failure problems on import with wmv files (all of a sudden) and suggested that I do a MPEG3 with separate AC audio. This worked great on rerenders of problem videos. Then i did another one. and it imports ONLY the video. just on one of the videos, not on the previous ones I did. Looking for a way to manually import the audio track to the Architect Studio 5 program.
The seemingly random problems are what drive me nuts with this. Suddenly a problem appears for no reason, like not having the remote buttons work…, when they did on same file the other day. argh. Will rerender the video again and see if it will work…this sort of thing holds up the whole project.
Anyway, from what I read in many forums, the two renders of MPEG2 and the AC audio are the way to go…
