Sony Vegas 10 64bit is crashing when I try to import a mp4 file
Now by crashing I mean if I just point at the window (drag and drop) with the file being dragged it instantly crashes.
I’ve managed to convert the file to be able to use it but now what’s happening is that it goes out of sync
The original plays fine – the converted file plays fine, once imported into Vegas it’s out of sync
I’ve tried converting into different formats
I’ve even tried that function that creates a project to the specs of the video being imported – no diceI’m using K lite Full pack (both 32bit and 64bit versions).
Updated to the latest 32bit and installed 64bit for the first time tonight
I don’t have anything additionally installed – and I have Sony Vegas 10, After effects C5.5 and AVS converter from the video related productsI can live with not being able to open a file but why would it whack out of sync any convert – rendering the video useless to me

K-lite and other codec packs are strongly recommended NOT to be used with Vegas and can cause massive problems during the edit stage and render phase. Installing the K-Lite codec pack is the WORST thing you could have done.
The first thing I would do is uninstall the K-Lite codec pack, reboot your computer, uninstall and re-install Vegas Pro. With any luck, this will re-establish the codecs that came with Vegas.
Search this forum and you will find this advice everywhere.

That’s your problem right there. As Nigel said, uninstall K-Lite, reboot, re-install Vegas, and pray that you didn’t do permanent damage that requires a reformat to recover from.

No codec-pak is acceptable.
Do you understand what a codec-pak is?
Installing a codec-pak is like taking all of the pills in your medicine cabinet in hopes that one of them will cure you. One of them might… but the others could kill you.
What they do is take the high quality codecs that you paid Sony good money for when you bought Vegas, and overlaid them with free, questionable quality, substitutes that quite often, don’t work with Vegas. This is never a good idea. Sony Vegas does not need any codecs-paks to handle MP4 files and you should not be install any additional codecs for this.
Never, ever install a codec-pak on a video editing workstation. They are notorious for causing errors in Vegas and the don’t always uninstall cleanly. What you should do is only install the codecs that you need, as you need them, from the manufacturer that makes the codec. That is the only safe way to deal with codecs.

Thank you for the detailed explanation – I’ve been using K-lite with Sony Vegas since version 8 and I’ve never had a problem like that before, so I never had a reason to delete it and hand pick my codecs.
About this particular mp4 – I’ve uninstalled K-lite and reinstalled Sony Vegas – the result is the same total crash
This is the interesting part – the video now plays, both in Quick Time and in Firefox (just dragged and dropped it there, not streaming) out of sync just like it did when I converted it and played it in Vegas!
Could it be something wrong with the particular video ?
The video was already edited and from the looks of it the person didn’t know much about what they were doing (almost 2/3 of the screen is black and there’s a little box in the middle with the video inside lol) can’t tell you whether it was edited on Mac or PC

It could be just that MP4 file. Try another one and if that works then it could be file specific.

Hi ..this is my first post..i’m using sony vegas 10e 32 bit on windows 7 ..issues i’m having is whilst uploading large quantities of .MXF files from XDcam HD …Sony Vegas crashes with a ‘UNMANAGED EXEPTION OXC0000005’ error …,iv also tried vegas 11 64bit and the sme happens with that..yet the same files work fine with sony vegas 9…help plsss
