Sony Vegas 10 vs Sony Vegas 11
Hi there,
I’m a editor who’s been working on sony vegas 9 for almost a year now, but some several months ago I ordered an upgrade namely vegas 10 but before I could try it I found out about the newest release that is vegas 11 which my friend conveniently acquired for both himself and for me to use. So in my rushy nature I ended up installing it. I hardly did much with it until just recently when I got an order that I needed to do but unfortunately I discovered from sources (including this site) that vegas 11 is one seriously buggy upgrade! (especially with newblue titler pro)
Constant crashes, render glitches, incompatibility with intel graphics, it was a complete nightmare even though I haven’t exactly witnessed any of it except with the newblue titler.
So obviously this shouldn’t be happening with vegas 10 now should it? Referring to the latest release 10.0e that is, can I plz get a good comparison between these two?
And what do you people recommend that I should do? Would uninstalling vegas 11 and installing 10 in its place be worth the trouble? Or should I just uninstall newblue titler? Will uninstalling vegas 11 affect any of my other plugins? Or is it possible for me to install 10e alongside the existing 11? Am I to be guaranteed that this will not cause anything buggy coz my lappy is pretty much brand new and it would kill me if anything happens to it this soon….

Intel core i3 2.10GHZ processor
4GB ram
320GB HDD

I’m doing just that – VP10e is being used for certain renders. VP11 has the high resolution display. I’m anxiously awaiting updates that will “cure” what ails 11.

Just take a deep breath, relax and use Sony Vegas 10.0e
instaed of Vegas 11 then,(given your situation).
No need to have both of them running, uninstall Vegas 11
and do a fresh install of Vegas 10.0e. All your plugins will
still be available.I still use Vegas 10.0e in my workflow. I have vegas 11, but
i wont use it until some of the issues are ironed out in a few

You can have multiple and different versions of Vegas on 1 PC. For example, I have a 64 bit Windows 7 operating system and I have SVP version 9, 10 and 11 (32 & 64 bit) on the 1 PC. That’s 6 versions! Why? Because you can!
I mainly edit using SVP 10 x64, but I have recently used SVP 11 (x64) to deliver 2 multi-cam projects using an HDV source. I did find it necessary to disable Track Buffering in the Audio Device preferences as Vegas would constantly crash otherwise. I also observed that SVP is quite sensitive to video driver updates. In my case, I had to revert to the original drivers that shipped with Windows 7.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

As others have said, you can have all of your versions of Vegas installed at the same time. I have Vegas Pro 9.0, 10.0, & 11.0 installed on my system with no ill effects.

So basically, you all are saying that nothing bad may come with having sony vegas 10 alongside 11. That gives me some relief but still I am a bit paranoid that merely having vegas 11 could cause problems to my system especially when I doubt I’m gonna be using it with the bugs it already may have. (until a more stable update comes along that is)
I’m thinking that I should just uninstall 11 for now and replace it with 10, but before I do that I need one more confirmation that it won’t affect any of my plugins or other softwares from doing so. That they will remain as they are and I won’t have to worry about anything being missing/unstable once this is all over.
Again, need one more confirmation before I proceed to do anything.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I installed K-lite codecs way before I had vegas. Yes, I know…..the dreaded enemy for every editor out there. =P Ironically my lappy is both for my work AND for my entertainment and it was the latter that came first in my life. lol
But strangely enough, vegas kinda worked for me coz I also installed quicktime/real player right after K-lite and THEN I installed vegas. So I never had to encounter any codec bugs with it, at least with vegas 9 anyway. With vegas 11 obviously there seems to be a bug for importing avi files, and btw I am using x64bit just to let you know while my old 9 was x32bit.
So if I wanna install vegas 10, should I go for the x32bit version? If you look at this thread: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/208/877390
It would seem x32bit users of vegas 10 have less problems and the bug with avi format seems to be related to the aviplug.dll in the x64bit versions. :S
P.S: Will someone plz unmoderate my account already? lol
Its getting annoying having to wait an entire day for my earlier post to be approved and then me posting another one as a just in case.

Uninstalling is another story. If you uninstall your last Sony product, it may also uninstall plug-ins and settings, and templates, and things you don’t want uninstalled. I would keep Vegas Pro 11.0 installed and just re-install Vegas Pro 10.0.
Like I said, I have Vegas Pro 9.0, 10.0, & 11.0 both 32-bit and 64-bit (that’s 6 versions of Vegas Pro) installed on my PC. There is nothing wrong with having multiple Sony products installed.

Well alright, I have installed sony vegas 10 but instead of the x64bit I did the x32 bit. Sure enough there’s a big difference now as I can see some codecs that weren’t compatible before like Xvid and ffdshow, but unfortunately I just realized that those plugins I installed with vegas 11 happened to be of x64 bit so they don’t show up in 10… :/
What now then? Is there a way I can activate em for vegas x32 or should I do another install of them? I recall there was a option when I installed them asking me if it was for sony vegas or for sony vegas x64 bit… :S
Oh and these are newblue plugins btw.

If you want the codecs in both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vegas Pro, then you need to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit codecs. Note, some codecs don’t have 64-bit versions.
