Best 1080 .mov w/o Alpha
Posted by Tyson Onaga on November 12, 2011 at 9:37 pmNeed to render to 1080 .mov. Do not need an alpha channel. What would be the preferred Video Format to use: Ani, BMP, … Video? Thanks …

November 13, 2011 at 5:13 pmWhat are you wanting to do with these mov files? If your going to edit them again, uncomressed is what you want. I don’t see an option for alpha channel when rendering to quicktime, only uncompressed avi or png frame sequence.

November 14, 2011 at 2:23 amUsing File Render, QuickTime 7 … Custom, choose (eg) VASST(GrafPak) HD 1920×1080-60i Video Overlay (Video Format = Animation), the resulting .mov has an Alpha channel. Placing that .mov in another project and setting its Properties, Media, Alpha Channel to Straight (unmatted) enables it.
I notice that Digital Juice 1080 stuff is delivered as .mov either Photo JPEG or PNG.
So, for content that I intend to reuse (but not re-edit), is either Photo JPEG or PNG sufficient? When is one better than the other? I also notice that .mov Animation file size is easily 2x that of .mov PNG, but the PNG takes much much longer to render. Is that normal?
Thanks.

November 14, 2011 at 3:52 amI always thought photo jpeg and ping were still photo formats, but can be used in Vegas as video when imported as frame sequences. Are these videos going to used on a mac? If not, why dont you use uncompressed avi or Cineform or another lossless format. Drive space is cheap now days. have you tried .mov without using the custom, Vaast? If the quality of the renders with alpha are usable, no harm in having an alpha channel.
