Complete clean uninstall/reninstall of Vegas to fix crashes during renders Rendering To MP3
My Question:
How do I do a complete uninstall and clean install of Sony Vegas? In other words, how do I remove all traces of Vegas from my system. All my former custom presets, former install data, everything. Have tried the uninstall/reinstall route and my custom presets remain whenever I reinstall Vegas. Am thinking that this was the cause of my rendering problems. Here’s why:
BACKGROUND:
Was having a problem with Sony Vegas 10 (64-bit) rendering files to MP3.
I’d attempt to “Render As” and Vegas would immediately crash.
No error message… Program would just instantly shut down.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas a few times. No change.
Read a post ( https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/905044 ) that recommended: “…Find your Application Data folder (‘C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Sony\File Templates’ on Windows 7) and rename the ‘File Templates’ folder then restart Vegas. The problem instantly went away for me.”
Tried it and low and be-hold, it solved the problem for me (warning: do this at your own risk) and I could render to MP3 again.
Looks like even though I had uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas, legacy data from Sony Vegas survived in this location:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Sony\
There was data from older Vegas installs even. Custom presets, etc…

Best bet is to go through all the folders and do it manually after an uninstall, or you’ll have to get a program like Revo Uninstaller Pro, which scans your drive for remnants of a program after installation.
