  • Changing My Resolution While Rendering

Posted by Shade Webb on November 2, 2011 at 8:20 am

I will attempt to explain my problem as best I can. I record gameplay footage at 1920×1080 resolution and render this footage in 1280×720 for upload to youtube, because 1080p is a HUGE filesize, and I don’t have 5 hours to wait around for youtube uploads.

My question is this, when I render these files in sony vegas, the font is fine, even fine font is generally readable, as long as my bitrate is set high enough. However, when rendering the same files, to the same format, with the same settings in Cyberlink Powerdirector, the font looks like it was simply resized, and has no legibility to it, with parts cut off, blockiness, and general poor resolution. The rest of the video looks decent enough, but the font looks terrible.

I would prefer to use Powerdirector, because it renders videos in about 1/4 of the time it takes Sony Vegas, however I have to have the font legible in my videos, has anyone had this problem before?

Your font issue is with PowerDirector, not Vegas, so
i doubt you will find the solution here.
PowerDirector is not a fully professional application, so you
are open to a variety of issues.

If you are delivering 720p try setting up your project at 720p so that all of your titles will be 720p and nothing will get resized except the video. In fact, I would record the gameplay at 720p as well this way everything is done in the delivery format.

Thank you steve and john, I’m sorry to resort to posting in what is basically the wrong section, I’ve just been searching for the answer for hours and I eventually just posted here, knowing I’ll get the best answer.

I was recording with fraps, which only gives you two, count it, two! options to record in, ridiculous right? Full size, or half size, tsk tsk. I have just gotten Dxtory today, which actually allows me to record in any resolution I want! I’m super excited, and as you said, this will allow me to record at 720p, and not have to force a resize in PowerDirector!

Thanks again guys, and I can only hope that someday sony vegas catches up to modern hardware, and redesigns their rendering process to be more efficient, so that a 1 minute clip doesn’t take 4 minutes to render, when it takes less than a minute in PowerDirector.
