  • Losing Color Correction during MultiCam edit

Posted by Dave Friend on October 27, 2011 at 8:56 pm

    Hi guys,

I’ve been forced to color correct one of the two cameras I’m using in a film, and every time I switch it to multicamera edit mode all of the color fixes are lost and I’m forced to use the original file. How do I get around this?

I deal with this a lot, and if you’re only try to correct one of the tracks, I just color correct one clip, copy it, then go to every other clip I want to color correct and right click on it, then click “Paste Event Properties”. I just did that for a two hour video. So it’s not ideal, but that’s what you have to work with with Vegas’ multicam editing.

VASST has a multicamera editing tool, and I think there are others, that claim to be more user friendly for multicamera editing (another problem with Vegas’ functionality is that if you want to add in another video track later, anywhere on the project, if you try to add it using multicam editing, you lose all the tracks except what you’ve already cut).

If you are only making one adjustment for the entire piece of media, then apply the correction at the project media level.

Do not use Event FX for color correction in multicam projects. You should use Media FX

He says he only needs to color correct one of the cameras. Media FX will affect the one he doesn’t want to color correct, and he’ll be left with the job of having to go back and adjust each event from the camera he didn’t want to change.

Just a thought, and I know that it’s not ideal, but he could color correct and render that footage to a new file, then edit off of that one. I’ve done the clip by clip routine and it works but it’s tedious .

Negative…. he can apply the color correction to the media he needs to correct in the project media pool and simply edit, the color correction will only affect what he applies it to and not any other piece of media.
