Just curious as to why an MP4 video file from by brother’s Sony cybershot digital camera will not load into Vegas 8.0c. I figure it must be a codec thing…but…the file plays fine in windows media player. It just won’t load into Vegas.

He has a couple of sections of a home video he wanted me to cut out for him. But when I try to import the mp4 into Vegas it says that the file is not supported.

I know Vegas 8.0c has an mp4 codec because I have rendered some video to mp4 for youtube…but I rendered it was SD. His file from his camera is HD. But I figured it’s a Sony camera…and I have Sony Vegas. Does Sony have an HD mp4 codec that can be downloaded or is this something that has to be done with a version upgrade?

I read on the Sony Software Forums that you have to install the software from the disc that came with the Sony cybershot camera. You would think Sony would have a codec to work with their cameras either already installed in Vegas or at least downloadable from their website. My brother said he can’t find his installation disc so I’m looking for other alternatives. Anyone ran into this problem before or have any ideas?

I tried installing apple quicktime and changing the file’s extension to .mov . The file would load into Vegas but all I got was audio and a black screen. Not sure what to try now.

7.6.2 is the latest version of QuickTime that Pro 8.0c will support.
Odds are that this mp4 needs a newer version of QuickTime which means that you need a newer version of Vegas to be able to play it.

Thanks Mike…that’s kinda what I was afraid of. Although I need to upgrade Vegas anyway. I’m waiting on 11 to come out so I can upgrade to the latest ver.
