  Can you stop light affecting a layer?

  I have a project where I have smoke travelling through a 3D After Effects created corridor. However, as much as I’ve found this easy up to now I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve hit a snag. I need the smoke to be on the same composition as the created corridor as it needs to be masked by some objects in the way. However, in order to make this I needed to add a light that passes the whole way down each corridor.

  Now my problem is that the light is interfering with the smoke trail. It’s making it bright white when the light hits it. Is there a way to seperate or reduce the influence of light on this layer?

  Select the layer press AA on the keyboard to reveal the layer properties and turn Accepts Lights off.

  That’s a good of doing things. Another option is to use an Adjustment LIght Layer. Eran Stern has a COW TUtorial on this subject.
