  • Do Re-Rendered Clips Lose Quality?

Posted by Tim Smith on September 30, 2011 at 1:30 pm

Hi, quick question. Do clips that are rendered more that once lose quality?

For example, I render my clip. Then I take the same clip into another project(with the same project settings) and render again(with the same render as settings). Does clip that lose any quality?

What format are the original clips and what format are you rendering to?

    The files are originally .m2ts

    I render using MainConcept AVC/AAC .mp4(both times)

Do your rendered files match your source properties?

I’m pretty sure. I am using all the same settings. And when viewing the clip properties everything seems to match.

You don’t render MPEG, you encode it. (Notwithstanding that Sony put the encoding options in the “Render As” menu). Unless you are using an uncompressed encoder, you will see quality loss with each generation of encoding.

If it’s still the original file and your just re-rendering the timeline with changes to an effect, no generation loss.

If your not still working with the original file, you have suffered a generation loss and therefore some quality.
