  Rendering a video to original file size

  I have a video (one I ripped, not recorded) that I wanted to cut parts from. That was all in complete success, but I can’t find how to render to the same file size.

  The original is a 1:30 minute clip, 34.8MB, 1280×720, AVI.
  Whenever I render, the size is 10 to 20 times larger than the original, AND I’m matching specifications to the original file to how it’s to be rendered. Only when I use an Xvid MPEG-4 Codec in a new template will it reduce to 2 to 3 times the original file size.

  How can just have it the same file size as the original file? Nothing I’ve tried works and it’s really pissing me off. It’s NOT for youtube and it’s NOT in HD. Every template doesn’t work and makes it this outrageous size. Matching specs doesn’t workout. Why can’t I just have the video in the same way as the original and in the same quality, and how can I get this done?

  Filesize is determined primarily by the bitrate you used in the encoding template.

  Higher bitrate=better quality=larger file.

  You want a smaller file, use a lower bitrate.

  But how do I know the bitrate of the original file?

  I understand higher quality comes at a cost, but how can I match the quality to the video I’m editing? If I’m cutting parts out, the end result should be a smaller file.

  If you are using the same codec and bitrate, then yes, the edited file should be smaller. Look for the free program: mediainfo.
