I need advice for fixing an image problem in my Sony Vegas slideshow
Hi people
I imagine my problem is pretty simple to solve, please excuse my novice ability.
I have made a slideshow for the my wedding which is this Friday the 19th of August.
I am using many photo’s in he slideshow however when I render and burn the project to a disc using architect the photos on a 47″ screen look rather blocky. I realise they also look blocky on the laptop but the big screen highlights it even more.
My wedding is just days away, is there a quick fix to my problem?

Probably not (unless you want to spend some money on Genuine Fractals from OnOne Software).
I just looked at their website and notice that they changed the product name and the price seems to be a lot lower than I recall. And they have a free trial, so see if it works for you. And let us know what happens.
What is the resolution of the original photos?

Hmmm..sounds like resolution is the problem. If the files are relatively small i.e. < 1MB, there may not be sufficient data in the file to begin with, hence the blockiness.
If you right mouse click the file in Windows and then click on the Summary Tab and then click on the Advanced >> button, you can see things like width, height and horizontal and vertical resolution.
Can you post a couple of dimensions?

The photo;s are mostly old photo’s from the 1980’s which I scanned into my computer.
Width 2408 pixels
Height 1693 pixels
Horizontal res 120dpi
Vertical res 120dpi
bit depth 24
frame count 1 -
Open your project properties and change your “Full-resolution rendering quality” to Best or when you render, press the Custom button, go to the Project tab, and change the “Video rendering quality” to Best. This will tell Vegas to use a better algorithm when resizing your images. Also make sure that you render to MPEG2 from Vegas if you are making DVD. This will avoid any re-rendering. Finally, don’t expect too much from a 720×480 resolution DVD on a 47″ monitor.

120 dpi is not good. I typically use images scanned at 240 or 300 dpi. Besides John’s suggestions, you could also try using pan and crop to zoom out of the worst images on the time line and perhaps keyframe an X,Y movement coupled with a slight rotation the images to make them appear to float. Essentially, use it as an effect.
If you have done some heavy image zooming in, you may want to reconsider, and be less aggressive with your zoom ins.
Lastly, if you have been importing stills with a portrait orientation into a 16:9 project, you might want to leave the event pan/crop at instead of 16:9 Widescreen TV aspect ratio.
