Re: Is there an easy way to cut, or trim a clip in Sony vegas 11 ?
Posted by Bob Dix on August 3, 2011 at 2:35 amJust started to use Vegas from Premiere Pro. Is there an easy way to trim or cut a clip on the timeline as per PP razor tool of Premiere Pro/ Elements Scissor tool ?

August 3, 2011 at 2:42 amIf you place the cursor on an event and thereby select the event, the S key cuts the event.
If you place the focus of the cursor below your tracks and have not highlighted an event and then press the S key, it cuts through all events.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

August 3, 2011 at 3:51 amThanks Nigel,
Well that worked , but, not as easy as the razor tool in Premiere Pro.
But, Vegas has some advantages, especially Image stabilization included. I’ll keep working on it .My computer set up is similar, but, been with Adobe PP for 6 years, may change ?PS .I am just up in ToowoombaFreelance Imaging & Video

August 3, 2011 at 3:58 amI’m still getting used to “slicing” –> “events” instead of “cutting” –> “clips” myself, but that’s what you do in Vegas…

August 3, 2011 at 4:27 pmYou can also drag the adges to trim an event to the size you want.

August 4, 2011 at 3:25 pmI’m just a beginner myself, but I agree with Danny Hays: dragging and trimming the edge is the easiest and most intuitive method I know. Place your cursor on the “in point” you want, then drag the left edge of the event to the cursor till it turns yellow. Place your cursor on your desired “out point” and drag the event’s right edge to the left till it turns yellow. It’s so fast that you can assemble a rough cut in record time.

April 14, 2014 at 7:49 pmI’m shooting a lot of GoPro footage and about 90% of it can be discarded. Using your technique it looks like I’d end up with a VEG file, but I’d still have the HUGE MOV file, most of which I don’t need. What I want is just the good stuff, but as a MOV file.
Thanks for your help
