Long story short, I was rendering on my laptop while in transit from my job to my apartment, and i didn’t realize my hard drive wasn’t secured properly, so it came out mid-render. Now, the file was saved before that and everything else (and i have it backed up in the cloud), but now whenever i load the project, vegas tells me that it can’t create a proxy file and all the audio tracks says “(Peaks not available)” which makes syncing shots extremely difficult.

I was wondering if anyone had a remedy for this. Thanks!

PS: I’m using Sony Vegas Pro 10c x64.

    Regards,
    Vinny

Try deleting all sfk and sfl files.

Thanks Stephen, your solution worked for me as well. I couldn’t open my project at all. It kept stopping at 24% open and then didn’t respond. I’m glad to find this solution so quick and it saved me a lot of re-editing. Bravo!

I knew that erasing the sfk and sfl files would likely fix the “can’t create a proxy file” problem, but I never thought of applying it to the “rendering stops at xx%” problem. Glad to hear that it worked. I’ll add it to my small arsenal of fixit tips.

Ahh, that’s much easier, thanks! The problem seems to be reoccurring every time I close and re-open Vegas. I know a lot of it has to do with the improper shutdown mid-render, but I’m hoping this doesn’t cause my project to become completely corrupt, as I’ve already put in close to 20 hours on this.

If your render is still aborting mid-way, then you still have a problem. If you watch the render, might be able to pick out where it is crashing and replace the media or reimport it.

It is unusual for Vegas to be instructed to manually rebuild proxy files upon each opening. The last time I would have experienced this was in a version 8 project, and only for 1 project. I have not had it occur since.

Have you tried copying to new project or nesting veg files in a new project?

Same results. I think my installation of Sony Vegas has just gotten very corrupted somehow. When I load the project (with the same SFK files) on my friends rig that has a fresh install of Vegas, there are no problems. I equate it to the plugins I have, but I use them all, so there’s not much of a way around it. My friends rig also has these plugins, but without the issues. I’m getting a new PC soon, so hopefully this will resolve the issue.

I had a similar problem where I couldn’t open a SVP10 file and the app would just say ‘not responding’ after 10 seconds and would need to end task. The removal of the sony sfk files did not work for me though.

I just resolved the issue by renaming one of the media folders in the project and when I opened the project I got the prompt for re-linking the media. All is better now 🙂

    update…

The media folder rename worked fine, but when I went to change it back to the original and re-link, I had the same issue.

After trying many combo’s of changing the folder name, moving the .sfk and .bak files into a different folder, it still would not accept the original location name when prompted to re-link the media.

So, I have changed the media folder name and re-linked the media with the various Vegas project files that I have.

    nothing is ever easy…;)
