Hello, when you render in the normal way, you get the setting and option to change the render quality to good, best etc etc. However, when I batch render, I do not get this option! Is there any quality drop of from batch rendering?

Also while I am here, my recorded resolution is 1680×1050, and I render at 1280×720, I get the black bars, so I check maintain aspect ratio, and that sort of sorts it out, but I still get the bottom black bars, is this normal?

Thanks for anyone who can help!

You can store this quality setting in your template on the Project tab. Then just use the template that has the quality you need.

Well… it is not normal to have video that is 1680×1050. I assume this is a screen capture. Your video is 16:10 and you are rendering as 16:9 so yes, there will always be black bars unless you crop the video on the Vegas timeline to be 16:9.

Thanks for the help on the first question,
However, when you say “crop the video on the Vegas timeline to be 16:9” – how do I do this? Sorry for a probably easy thing to do!

    Thanks though!

One way is to set your project properties to be 16:9 and then open Pan/Crop for every event on the timeline that is 16:10 and then right-click the frame window and select Match Output Aspect. Then move the crop rectangle if needed to make sure you don’t crop off something important.

The other way is to drop the entire project into a new 16:9 project so that the whole thing becomes one big event. Then crop that event using Match Output Aspect. This will only work if it doesn’t crop off something important along the way.

    Thankyou, is 1920×1080 16:9?

Also my source material runs on full settings, so when I record it, it also looks amazing, however, when rendered in what I would say is the best settings, it never quite looks as good, I render into sony’s avc! H.264.

The only variable that I can see is the resolution, but that’s not a huge jump!

By the way have you ever experienced render times slowing down heavily that my CPU starts running at around 20-30% and render takes a lot longer as in 3 to 4 times longer? It is a quad core?

[John Habbered] “Thankyou, is 1920×1080 16:9?”

    Yes.

[John Habbered] “Also my source material runs on full settings, so when I record it, it also looks amazing, however, when rendered in what I would say is the best settings, it never quite looks as good, I render into sony’s avc! H.264.”

The reason it never quite looks as good is because you are resizing it very slightly and that’s enough to make everything softer. If you were resizing by half, it would probably look a lot better but because you are doing a fractional resize, it doesn’t have the same definition. What you really want to do is record at 16:9 in the delivery resolution so that no resizing is required.

That sounds like you’ve added an FX that is single threaded and is slowing things down to one code. 3x to 4x rendering times are not uncommon for AVC/H.264. It is a highly compressed format that takes forever to render but not having all 4 cores near 100% is usually a threading problem.

I have no effects, although it is mad eup of around 15-20 clips, would that slow it down a lot?

No, that’s not a lot of clips at all. What is the source codec? FRAPS? That could be slowing down the render.

[John Habbered] “Your good, yes Fraps!”

Yea, I’ve read about people having problems editing and rendering FRAPS in Vegas. You might want to try converting the footage to Motion-JPEG video with PCM audio in a tool like AviDemux and then substituting that video for the FRAPS source in your project and see if that renders fine. Just move the FRAPS files to a safe folder on your hard drive and move the M-JPEG footage in it’s place and then open the project.

Here are the settings you would us in AviDemux:

    Thank you!

Is their any quality drop of? Will it take long to render, and I’m presuming that file sizes would be a lot smaller after converted?

    Thanks!
