When i create a new project i set the video i set the template to HDV 720-30p (1280×720, 29.970 fps, becasue that is what i record in with my intensity pro, when i watch the raw video before editing, it is HD, after i render it out of Vegas Pro the quality is terrible. there is also a black box on the outside of the video. Help would be appreciated.

What render template are you using? If you are delivering for the Internet, you should render using Sony AVC with the Internet 720p template.

First you have to set the template to the dimensions of
the video format you are gonna edit….And render out in that
same format/dimension according to what you are doing.
That is why you get that black box. Where exactly is this project
    of yours destined for?
