Explanation of Take
Could someone explain what the Take option is for in Sony Vegas?
I was just reading about it and the instruction said to right-click the file in the Explorer, or Project, then drag it to the timeline. A menu appears which allows you to do several things: Add Across Time and Add As Takes.
First question: what is the Take feature for? When would one use this feature?
Also, what is the difference between Add Across Time and Add As Takes?

“Takes” are layers of media on top of each other, and only the top “Take” is used. If you add as takes, then select the event and press the “T” key to cycle through the takes.

When you say they’re layered, is that, for example, the same video event (different takes of it) on the same track? Do you simply put them on top of each other on the same track, then?

Exactly. Tr it yourself. Open Vegas, create a video track, drag any media to the timeline, then right-click-drag some different media to the same timeline and you will get the option to “add as take”. Do this a few times then position the cursor over your pile of takes and click on the “T” key to cycle through them.

This is probably a dumb question, but why would someone use Take? Why not simply put the video clip you want in that spot to begin with? Why have a pile of video clips on top of each other?
Also, can you do Takes with audio?

I really never use takes in video tracks, but audio takes frequently when recording voiceovers or music video lip-sync tracks.
I can play a video from one track while recording audio in other tracks at the same time. If I don’t like something on the audio, it’s an almost instant reset to the start and record again as a new take over the old.
