  Rendering

  In Adobe Premiere, it’s possible to render clips in the timeline so they can be previewed without lag. The clips will also stay rendered even if Premiere is closed and then reopened and re-rendering is only necessary when modifications have been made to that clip (eg effects added). Is this possible in Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10? When I choose the Tools -> Preview in Player option, it renders the clip but I always have to re-render it again even if no modifications have been made to that particular clip which I find time consuming.

  Try Tools | Selectively Prerender Video (Shift+M)

  Even though this does not exactly answer the initial question (unlike John’s post thanks to which I’ve learnt something), I personally frequently use the Shift+B command (RAM preview) to quickly check a transition or an effect. Just select a part of the time line, then Shift+B, all frames are computed and stored in RAM, then replayed without any lag.

  The total length of preview is conditioned by the value entered in Options>Preferences>Video – Max dynamic RAM preview.

  You’re welcome. If you want the pre-rendered files to exist after you exit Vegas, make sure you look in Options | Preferences and make sure that Save active prerenders on project close is checked. (it should be by default)
