Funny lines through video
Someone please help me because I am pulling my hair out! First time ever I’m hired to video a dance recital and the edit is not going well! I keep getting these lines through the video! I don’t know how to fix it but I know there is a way because the first time I saved the file it did not render like this. Then there was something I wanted to fix in the edit and I started playing around with the settings and I may have changed something then, but since then I went back and reset everything to default but now STILL getting the lines. HELP!

Those are interlace lines. Go into your Project Properties and make sure that your Deinterlace Method is set to Blend Fields. That should fix it. (I’m guessing you’ve set this to None by accident)
If that’s not it, post a screenshot of your project properties video tab so we can see what’s going on.

Well you were right, I did have it set to none, but then I changed it to blend and rendered a small loop and STILL getting the lines. I don’t understand why my first complete render came out fine? Here’s a screencap of my project properties:

You have your project set to progressive, but your video is obviously interlaced. You should set your project to match your source media video format. Do this by pressing the Match Media Settings button like this:
This will make your project match your media and should make it handle the interlacing properly.~jr

John, this one is so obvious. She has dropped the upper track opacity from 100% to somewhere around 50%. That’s the blue line in her upper track. (I think that’s what she is referring to).

Oh, I didn’t think that was it. I assumed she wanted the opacity like that. I was looking at the interlace combing on the arms in motion. If it’s the opacity that’s the problem then that’s a whole different solution.

Haha …I was NOT referring to the blue line. I dropped the opacity purposely because I am merging a full stage shot with a close up shot of the same dance. It’s only half way finished because of the issue I was having with the interlace lines. Thanks for your help, I will try the match fix and let you know how I make out.

Ok, so I matched the project properties to the project file and it still rendered with visible interlace lines. I can’t get rid of them!

The answer lies in the response to these three questions:
What is the final delivery format for this video? (DVD, Internet, ?)
What template did you use to render?
What device did you use that you are still seeing lines on? (TV or PC)
For example, if you are delivering this on DVD and you are viewing a rendered MPEG2 file on your PC, then seeing these lines is perfectly normal. They will not be seen on the DVD. It’s only because your PC is not an interlaced device.
BTW, What camera did you use to shoot this?

I burned a test video to DVD and everything looks PERFECT. Thanks so much for all your help!
