I am having some trouble I was hoping one of you more advanced editors could assist me with. I have a roughly 30 minute clip with about 8 tracks that I cannot get to render past about 30%. I’ve tried to render it about 5 times and the estimated render times have varied between 12 hours and 17 hours.

I have included a few screen shots that I hope will further explain my troubles. Any help or advice would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

What build of Vegas Pro 10 are you using? 10.0a,b,c,d? If not the latest (10.0d) then perhaps updating to the latest might help.

I’m using 10.0a right now. (I also failed to mention that I’m using intermediate files for my editing. I used the “infamous” Mpeg Streamclip to render my Canon T2i files to DNxHD .mov files.)

Do you think that the media files have a play in it? I wanted to experiment with the original H.264 raw clips but is it safe to just relocate the intermediate files and then switch them with the raw files? If it is possible, I will render it that way and update you.

[Joshua Smith] “I’m using 10.0a right now.”

Well… 10.0d is the latest version so you may be fighting bugs that Sony has already fixed. The first thing I would do it update to the latest level 10.0d and see if it fixes the problem.

There is always the possibility that DNxHD files were not created correctly with MPEG Slipstream. I would recommend you use CineForm NeoScene for working with Canon T2i files. I would update Vegas first and see if that fixes it first.

Ok I went through the process of upgrading to 10.0d (which seems to play the raw files from the T2i smoother than 10.0a). I attempted to render the file again and after about 6 hours it got to about 37% before giving me the same error.

I discovered late last night I actually did NOT do this project with Mpeg Streamclip. (I saw online that Pro 10 was able to preview the files in realtime.) Therefore, my project file includes the original files from the camera and not intermediate files. Any help as to why my project is not rendering?

…I might have hit a multi-threading bug with the H.264 codec. I glanced online and saw this in another forum. I will try to change my threads to 1, unless someone advises otherwise.

    *UPDATE*
I wonder if it has anything to do with how I’m rendering the file. I have 60fps/720p video and I was trying to render to mp4 at 30fps. I am trying out rendering to .mov as I saw you advise someone to render in the same format as the original file to get the highest quality. I will let you know if this works. Hoping for the best!
