8GB Ram Issue Vegas 10 Pro 64 bit
Posted by No Vegas on June 30, 2011 at 3:44 amI’m using Windows 7 64 Bit Premium with Vegas 10d Pro X64.
Vegas continues to lock up while editing video on the timeline and jogging back and forth on the timeline with 8gb of memory installed.
However, if I pull one stick out and leave 4gb in it runs perfectly smooth with no errors or crashes.I have tested both sticks of ram and it works perfect on each single 4GB stick. If I put 8GB back in it crashes again.
Any ideas why I can’t use 8GB of ram with Sony Vegas 10 64 Bit on a 64 bit system?
My ram is G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Intel BOXDH55HC LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760

June 30, 2011 at 6:30 pmI run Vegas Pro 10 with 8GB of RAM on Windows 7 64-bit every day and I have no problems.
I would run a memtest86 test overnight with all 8GB installed and see if you come up with any problems.

June 30, 2011 at 9:51 pmI’m running a very similar 8GB 10d pro system without problems. Okay… with the occasional crash which isn’t out of the ordinary. I’d run Prime95 in torture test mode and make sure to override the memory settings so it accesses your whole 8GB. I’ve had RAM which would pass MemTest86+ but gets flaky when the CPU is heavily loaded. Vegas can do that even when not rendering. RAM should pass both MemTest86 and Prime95 before it’s considered reliable.

July 1, 2011 at 8:42 amI ran Memtest as you suggested and the ram tested 100% OK. No issues.
I’m using Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9-24
Model #: F3-10666CL9D-4GBRLSony Vegas Pro 10 32 bit runs PERFECT on the same exact PC only under Windows XP Pro SP3. It’s only Windows 7 64 bit I’m having issues with.
The hardware is all the same.
I’ve updated all my drivers, Bios and patches.
I purchased a New Nvidia GTX560 video card, a New 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive and performed a full clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and clean install of Sony Vegas Pro 10b.
No other software was installed to conflict. When I load my SD project containing standard .AVI file captured straight using VidCap from my Panasonic Mini DV Camera, it will Stop responding, the screen turns white, and 5 minutes later it starts again only to stop responding again in a minute.
I don’t have any issues with Windows XP on the very same PC. (Different hard drive and OS)
I have tried just about everything. But this issue is driving me crazy. I spent a load of $$$$ to use Sony Vegas Pro 10 64bit with Windows 7 x64 Professional and so far I can’t.
Any help, suggestions, info, would be greatly appreciated!

July 3, 2011 at 5:07 pmI don’t know what to tell you. It’s interesting that your motherboard is not listed as “qualified” on G.SKILL-Products page for your memory. Perhaps they had problems with it? I would never build a system with parts that weren’t certified to work together from the manufacturers.
Since 4GB work, and 8GB doesn’t it really does point to the memory / motherboard combination. I would contact G.SKILL and ask if your motherboard is supported.

July 4, 2011 at 11:30 pmOk. I’ve done everything suggested and here’s what I found.
My RAM is good. Or at least doesn’t show any errors with Memtest or the other tests I’ve run.
I pulled my video off the G-raid with firewire 800 and placed it on an internal SATA drive.
Now when I’m mulitcam editing the video stutters just slightly around the point it would normally crash but keeps going.
I’m think there is a problem but it was accentuated by using the slower Firewire 800 which caused it to stop and freeze. At least now it doesn’t crash, just stutters for a second and keeps going.
I still need to figure out what’s causing the stuttering issue. That doesn’t show up on XP Pro with the exact same files.
It still might be my Ram, but not sure how to check with out buying a different brand. My G.skill was qualified for the Intel I-5 CPU, but not my Motherboard which is strange because my Motherboard was also qualified for my Intel CPU.Thanks for all you help. At least Pulling it off the Firewire 800 helped for now. but still need to track the issue down.
