  Novice needs advice-Vegas HD Platinum 10.0

  Hello,
  I am Dad just trying to make simple videos for DVD, facebook, or flickr postings. I bought a Canon HFS10 and the Vegas HD Platinum 10.0. All my videos look worse than when I had a point and shoot camera capturing video and I was editing with windows movie maker. Would greatly appreciate any help on what settings, what file type to save as, etc.

  I prefer to save with .wmv because of the smaller files, but even saving as .avi, the videos look pretty bad. in particular, grainy and not sharp with dull colors.

  What is your end-point? A DVD, a YouTube file, a video on your website?

  One overriding truism in video compression is that video quality is inversely proportional to encoded file size. You want smaller files, you will have lower quality video.

  most of the time, want to post to flickr or facebook for family to see, but also make good version to convert to dvd.

  i played around with other output options on vegas studio hd platinum 10 last night and i found that selecting FORMAT: Main Concept MPEG-2 (.mpg, .m2v, .m2t, .mpa) with TEMPLATE: HDV 1080-24p resulted in a much better video without creating a huge file. only problem is flickr does not seem to recognize this file type to post online.

  Do you or anyone have other suggestions on best output options in Vegas Studio HD Platnium 10 to create good quality video from AVCHD (.mts) files?

  Another rookie questions, how is “rendering” different from “make a movie”?
