  • Quick way to add motion?

Posted by John Jakob on May 4, 2011 at 12:25 am

I’m new to Vegas. Like it a lot, but wondering if there’s an easy way to add random “motion” across a bunch of slideshow images.

As an example, I created this video a while ago with Microsoft Windows Live:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3hMHU_REbo

Nothing fancy, but it shows the kind of “motion” i’d like to reproduce. This is super-easy in Windows Live–one just selects all the slides and clicks on a global “random motion” selection.

Can I do anything like this in Vegas, or do I have to set motion explicitly for each/every slide?

    Thanks,
    -john

You would have to add the motion to each and every slide but you can buy a plug-in like VASST Ultimate S Lite for $69 USD that can do it all for you in one click.

Here is a video of the Photo Montage tool in Ultimate S Lite at work (watch it in 720p HD on YouTube):

Disclaimer: I work for VASST and I built the Ultimate S Lite plug-in so don’t take my word for it. Download the 15-day free trial and see for yourself. 😉

    Wow!
Just watched the montage training video.
VASST Ultimate S looks like a deep, powerful tool that integrates very nicely with Vegas. It’s almost too cool! I’m downloading now.
Thanks so much for the info!

You can also try Vegasaur (look at Pan/Crop Assistant) or Excalibur. Both extensions have the tools that you are looking for.

If that’s as far as you want to go with video production then I’d suggest investing in something like Animotto instead, designed to produce exactly what you’re demoing. It’s literally a couple of clicks and the whole thing is done and it looks amazing.

Once you get the hang of Sony Vegas, though, it’s very easy and fast to add the motion you demonstrated using key-framing in 2D track motion, especially for a series of images in a sequence like that. Sony Vegas offers much more control over motions, more for the professional video producer who “has to have it be like THAT” and not the person looking to make quick and ez videos.
