Ripping a poster off a wall
Hi,
I’ve been set with a tacks of making a quick transition between two images but making it look like a hand is ripping a poster off a wall. I want to create this ripping effect in After Effects preferably (or Cinema 4D) with the hand being live footage keyed into the shot. All of the poster has to be gone so its more of a ‘scrumpleing’ effect if you get what i mean?! Anyone have any clues. Also to make it harder i’m working in AE 7.

You might find it easier to use photos of a hand, rather then live footage – one open and ‘reaching’ and then another closed ‘pulling’ – then move the hand about in AE. Depending on the shot you want, and your keying skills, it’s possibly easier/quicker, and you’ll get more control over timing.
As for the actual poster pull, page turn is probably a good start – but ‘scrumpleing’ is pretty hard. From what I remember of trying to do a ‘Folded page look’ a while back, the best method was looking at folded page tutorials for photoshop, and trying to use those principles.

Are these stills images? If so, why not just make poster prints of each and do it live-action, and then comp that shot back into your project… with a bit of colour correction and alignment you might get a better result, cheaper and faster!

Your main problem will be that the page turn effect in After Effects in not true 3D. The corner that gets pulled off the wally is not going to come forward in space. You can fake this rather easily with another flat layer, being pulled by the hand, that is masked against the poster’s diagonal tear line. It’s getting pulled out of the wall as the poster is getting smaller.
But even it will not be curved like paper.bogiesan
